The Hotel Britania, which belongs to the Hoteis Heritage Lisboa chain, has been nominated by Condé Nast Johansens for the category Most Excellent Hotel for Design and Innovation.
Once called Hotel do Império, the Hotel Britania, which was designed by the architect Cassiano Branco, stood out with its impressive structure, excellent comfort and art deco decor that gave it a touch of modernity and made it a unique landmark in Portuguese tourism. This nomination is owed to a great extent to the in-depth restoration work that has rejuvenated the hotel that marked Portuguese tourism in the 1940s as a symbol of quality and modernity.
All the restoration work was carried out on the basis of Cassiano Branco’s description of the project and photos published in the press in the 1940s. The improvements include modern comforts and new technologies.
